A Busy Couple of Weeks

Yes, the past 2 weeks have been full of activities, all good. We flew to SoCal on July 4 and had a great time the next day at Living Way Christian Fellowship in Fontana, where I taught at the 3 AM services. What a wonderful group of folks! Afterward we had lunch with family and a friend who had been a student when I was teaching at the CC Bible School in 1983! Then drove to Orange County, having dinner with family and checking into the hotel for the next 5 days. From Monday through Thursday we attended the CC Senior Pastors Conference at CC Costa Mesa. What was so good was the many connections made with friends, old and new. There are way too many “divine appointments” to mention. Here is one: I am going to be intentionally very general here. About 11 years ago, I met a pastor at the Pastors Conference. We talked for a long while. I knew he was having a tough time. That was in June. When Christmas rolled around, I felt compelled to send some money to him, for his 5 children to be able to have a nice Christmas. He sent a letter of thanks at the time. Fast forward to last week. There were a couple of thousand people at the conference. During one of the “greeting times”, I shook hands with the man sitting directly in front of me. As I sat down, I realized it was the same man from so many years ago. He then quickly turned around as he realized who I was. It was a very emotional meeting. He said that he had prayed that we might cross paths, and there he was, “randomly” sitting in front of me!! It gives me chills thinking about it. There is more to the story that blew me away, as to the timing of when I sent the gift. No doubt God orchestrated that meeting!

Anyway, we flew back on Friday, then on Saturday I drove to Dallas, Oregon and taught at Dallas Church on Sunday morning, driving back that afternoon. I had a great time there as well, having lunch with Pastor Ben and his family, and some long-time friends.

So, now I am back home and peppering for some ministry opportunities at CC Silverdale, as well as planning the trip in September to Asia, India, and Nepal.

Thanks for the prayers. Please keep them going upward!

Trip To Kathmandu Cancelled

Well, there were 5 of us who had been scheduled to fly to Nepal early this morning, taking tents and cots that had been purchased for the orphanage. However, over the previous several days, we became aware of a great deal of corruption and incompetence as it relates to relief efforts and supplies. Today I saw another report, a news clip from a TV station in Nepal, that clearly shows that thousands of shipments of relief supplies are sitting in and around the cargo warehouse at the Kathmandu airport. In the report one person said that no officials want to take the responsibility for it, nobody has an answer for why it is sitting there undistributed. We were also told that our goods may be confiscated unless they are approved by the government. So, as much as we wanted to go personally, we decided that it would be better to return the items and simply send the funds via bank transfer to the orphanage. People have been very generous in contributing to the orphanage. So, we made a bank transfer and now they will be able to purchase what they need.

Things are constantly changing in Nepal. As recently as a couple of weeks ago, we were good to go. But, after hearing of the corruption from multiple sources, and seeing in vivid detail the photos and video of the rotting relief supplies, we knew it was getting worse. We are still dedicated to assisting the orphanage and I hope to visit them in September after a trip to India.

Thanks for all the support and prayers.
