Well, we got through the summer with much of it assisting my wife with her rehab from knee surgery. It is all good and I am thankful for the ability to help her recover fully.

So, I turn my attention to October now, especially the trip to Indonesia. It is an ambitious schedule, and I will hit the ground running. I arrive on Saturday, October 11. On Sunday morning I will preach at a church, the service beginning at 6:30 AM. Following that, I will teach the young people there and take Q & A for a while. After lunch, I will teach 2 sessions to pastors gathered for the conference, ending at 9 PM. It will be a long day! On Monday I will again conduct meetings with the pastors, teaching and leading discussions. That will go until noon. The next day I will travel to a Bible college and teach 2 sessions and lead Q&A and discussions with the students. Last year it was great to be with young, eager students. I will go the next day to a different Bible college and repeat the same schedule. Then on Thursday afternoon we will travel to a different city where, on Friday we will conduct a one-day retreat for pastors from another area of Indonesia. That will conclude the planned ministry endeavors. But, as I have learned through the years, the Lord always has more on the agenda!

I will request prayers for good health, stamina, and God’s anointing and blessing on all of the teachings and discussions.

If there is a Bible passage that characterizes my year so far, it is this, from II Timothy 4:2: “. . . be ready in season and out of season”. In other words, be ready to do your work irrespective of the circumstances, whether favorable or unfavorable.

Sometimes we need to expect the unexpected! This year so far has been characterized by unexpected twists and turns. After going to India and Nepal in March, I was expecting to once again participate in the Pastors and Wives Retreat in Uganda, for East African pastors. It has been a part of the rhythm of my ministry experiences since 2016. However, I found that the event had been cancelled this year due to unexpected snags with the organizers in Africa. So, I had to do a reset. On the home front, my wife was told she needed a knee replacement. The surgery is scheduled for late July, which means that for most of August I will be helping her recover and taking her to rehab therapy. I gladly accept that responsibility. That will give me time to do some writing that I have been wanting to do. There is still a possibility of going to Tanzania in September. I have been asked to assist in teaching pastors in several towns. No decision has been made yet. In October I am scheduled to go to Indonesia and teach for a week in Wonogiri, teaching pastors as well as students at a Bible College. I will also possibly go to Bali and teach. So, I have plans but with any plans, we say “if the Lord wills”. We will make plans but will also see what doors the Lord might open or close.

Through all of this year, I am grateful for all who continue to support MTI. Without you, we could not do what we do. I am also grateful for the members of the Board of MTI, who continue to provide counsel and guidance through all of the decisions we need to make. Their help is invaluable.

I just returned from 18 days in India and Nepal. It was a wonderful time and I am blessed to be able to meet with so many pastors and leaders. In India I spent 4 days with over 200 pastors and leaders, teaching and encouraging them. I am not disclosing the location at the request of the director. However, I was encouraged to see what is taking place in certain areas of India.

In Nepal, I taught at 2 Pastors and Leaders conferences with 2 different organizations. The leaders are pressing on, sometimes in the face of some harsh realities. In each case, the days spent with them were precious and I am grateful to be able to teach and encourage them.

I also went to the orphanage we support and spent time with the leaders and the children. One of the highlights was taking them all out for a lunch. This is a real (and rare) treat for them and they thoroughly relished the time. The kids are now immersed in their studies, preparing for school.
