A Great Evening and Worship Service

It is Saturday evening right now. The past 24 hours have been a great joy. Last evening I went to a restaurant with all of the kids from the orphanage. We (MTI) treated them to a rare night out, a party for the kids. When Dev and Maya from the orphanage picked me up, she told me that the girls had been deciding all day on what dress to wear, how their hair will look, and more. The day before all of the kids had been looking at the menu online to decide what they were going to order. It was like Christmas to them, as they rarely get to go out to a restaurant. We met the kids at the restaurant and they were so excited! They had pizza, hamburgers, Momo’s (the Nepal national dish, kind of like potstickers), ice cream, soda, and more. I truly was filled with joy as I observed the joy in all of them, smiling, laughing, and eating. (They took home several boxes and bags of leftovers and Dev told me they were eaten before morning!). It was an unforgettable evening with these wonderful children! The photos are from during and after the dinner.

Then, today I preached at the church of Pastor Satis Thapa. It was about a 30-45 minute drive from the hotel. The service began at 11 and finished at about 1:30. The time of worship through music and prayer was rich. Their worship music group consists of young people, mainly in their teens and they are very talented. I preached a sermon and Pastor Satis translated, doing a great job. The message was followed by a sweet time of communion. I was able to interact and pray with many of the congregation and then I was given a lunch after which I was driven back to the hotel. What a wonderful 24 hours! Tomorrow I will begin the 2-day seminar for 50 pastors at Satis’ church.

Thanks for the prayers. I’m feeling great and relishing this time with everyone.

Second Day of Conference

Today went very well. I taught 2 sessions and enjoyed the time with this group. I have been acquainted with many of them for about a decade. Most of them are from small villages in the mountains, and they look forward to gathering each year for teaching and fellowship and worship. It is always a privilege to be with them.

Thanks for the prayers. This evening I will be with Dev and Maya and the children at the orphanage. I will keep in touch!

First Day Done

He everyone,

Well, I made it to Kathmandu in one piece, arriving early on Monday morning. I was met at the airport by Dev and Maya, the couple who run the orphanage. Dev is also a pastor. They drove me to my hotel and I then showered and had a bit of breakfast. Upon returning to the room, I decided to rest. The flights took a total of 26 hours and I did not sleep much at all. So, I fell asleep in the room for a couple of hours. When I awoke, I got up and was very dizzy, like vertigo. I was able to walk and stand but it was a real unpleasant surprise, as I had felt great when I left from the US. So, I rested for the rest of the day. On Tuesday, I didn’t feel much better but I knew I had to leave for the conference. I asked for a late checkout and was able to leave at 3 PM, when I was driven the 45 minutes to the hotel up up on a mountain. I had a restless night, as the power went out 2 or 3 times, turning off the ac. But, I was picked up this morning by Pastor Cherian of HMU and driven to the conference site, the Godavari Ashram. I was still not feeling well but I knew I had 3 1-hour sessions to teach so I prayed and moved ahead. As the day went on, I was feeling increasingly better except for the jet lag slapping me around!I got back to the hotel and about 6PM and had some dinner and now will get ready for tomorrow. The group of about 30 pastors is wonderful and responsive, and the translator (Baburam) is very skilled. I am looking forward to tomorrow and trust that I will be feeling better.

Thanks for the love and prayers.
